Descontrol

Songs I am currently listening to on repeat

While I'm stressing out about finals *sighs*...
here it goes

These kinds of songs break my heart (I'm too sensitive)...and I'm in the mood for a good crying session... Got to make the best out of these days, so that you can let it all out, and move on.

I imagine listening to this song in the good old times, in a slow dance or something. Intense!

Romance

Aunque me aburro,
Y lo trato con desdén,
El romance es todo,
Todo con quien fue,
Todo lo que será,
Anhelo, espero, deseo,
Lo efímero del momento,
Unas cuantas veces mas.

Insect Hunt

As a friend said, it's resurrection week, though some of us don't wish it was like so. I stumbled upon a rather peculiar old playlist in my library called " Cazería de Insectos or Insect Hunz (misspell and pun intended) in english. One of my favorite playlists ever, because it accompanied in my intimate escapades. So here it is, one of my most personal playlists. Hope you enjoy.

yesterday...

So here I am, at 2:22 a.m.
I didn’t go to the Black Cat’s dance party, but I had a hell of a lot of fun tonight. The universe conspires in one favor, and I like that it does so...and good experiences are the result of one’s own output of good and positive energies that one radiates to everyone else.

I met someone cool today, and on the way back we rode in the back of a pickup truck; cold and in the snow, but pretty awesome!

Will get help, but all I can think about is the song from Magnolia...'Save Me'. Nothing out of the ordinary, and it's not like I'm inb depressionb or anything, just that maybe a helping hand will be appreciated.

Wedding

I dreamed that I was getting married to one of my cousins; but what really surprised me about the whole thing is that I was happy in the dream. The idea of marriage has never been one to stimulate any such meanings/feelings for me. {Which doesn't apply to others as I did get incredibly happy when a close friends made that decision}.

Anyway, the dream was very vivid. It was very much like in the movies: unexpected and with a great photography director. I am not someone who gives light thought to things like these...which drives me crazy.

Suffice to say, that the way things are going right now, marriage is not something that I'm even thinking about. I got compromise-phobia again...

Colonial Bullshit...never ends

Actual letter that I sent today to the registra's office at my university:

To whom it may concern in the Registrar Office:

The purpose of this letter is to ask the proper officials to give attention to a matter that is present on the Testudo webpage (One of the Student Services Webpages of the University), in the registrar section, where I am asked to apply for graduation. The form asks me to put my name as I would like it to appear on the diploma. I found myself with a chance to finally put my whole name and surnames without any hyphen and with the proper punctuation. But when I tried that, the system would not let me insert the proper acute accent on the second o, of one of my surnames. Although this might be dismissed as a simple matter, I find it troubling that my graduation diploma cannot reflect my proper name; a matter that certainly affects my self-esteem and makes me think of the position of minorities in this university. Many times, I have chosen to not put the accent as to avoid confusion as I have received messages where my last name is written in different iterations of the following example: David Col=%7n Cabrera. Furthermore, I find this whole matter incongruent with the more 'diverse' environment the university is trying to promote nowadays.

My request is simple, in that I wish that my diploma displays my full name as it was given to me in Spanish: David Colón Cabrera (where Colón Cabrera are my two surnames). While Americans in the US only have one last name, this is not the case in other parts of the world. As a Puerto Rican, born in a territory of the United States, and a full American citizen by birth, I wish nothing more than that my diploma reflects the birth registration laws of the territory of Puerto Rico, as with any other state. In Puerto Rico both the last names of the father and the mother are reflected in the offspring without any hyphen. In addition, I ask that the second O in Colón, has the proper acute accent. As some might know, without the accent the word has a different connotation in English than what it has in Spanish, which is why I think it important for it to reflect my birth given name. I do not wish to cause any inconvenience, as I know that many do not know or are not trained in putting diacritical marks. Here is a link from Lafayette College that provides the proper computer shortcuts for diacritical marks: http://ww2.lafayette.edu/~langlab/accents.htm.

Thank you very much for your time,

David Colón-Cabrera

This is it?

Sometimes, some things feel ethereal- even not real. Sometimes just the act of going to bed, seems so rehearsed, so planned, that one forgets that it was planned at all (though sometime ago). It's not even taking things for granted, is more like forgetting our lines in the play and improvising. Lately, I've been feeling that exact same way: like I have just been improvising because I forgot the lines that I was supposed to deliver on these scenes. Maybe, this means that I'm no good at plays and would do better at improv comedy. But secretly, I long for the anonymity and simple coreographs of the usher.

Always the undecided...

What about this so called new life

So I know I was wrong... And now I'm paying for it. But more than just making the mistake of going through my ex's email, the mistake was making you my partner in crime. Though I am busted, I am going to stay silent on your matters my dear... Good or bad times, I have discovered that I am not you.

And this doesn't clear the fact that what I did was wrong, but I'm coming clean and trying to move on...

And now, trying to make ammends.

This may be old news but I feel way tired. I don't think I have ever worked as hard as I am doing now. Waking up at 8, going to bed at 12 and working all the time in between. Just two more weeks of madness.

Dust

So much time...
I have had this blog since 2004... yet I deleted my posts from that past...and now I regret that.

I am surprised because I have had my current journal (you know, a paperback old-school blog) for the past 3 years. I have not written everyday in it, but I feel like it has documented a lot of what I think. The usefulness of it all is that I can read back and look at how have I changed (or not) by what I wrote (or what I didn't write). I love that journal...even though I have said several times that it must die sometime soon, I am scared to let go of it. I have decided to continue writing in it, until the pages run out... and then the next one will do its job.

I have had several journals in the past; most of them ended up being not filled up because I was too lazy to write a full account of what was happening with my days...and I hated that. So I think that is why I am attached to this one so much, because it's not rigid and it has provided me with an open framework in which to just write whatever... Reading back, I see gaps and I can identify what I didn't wrote in those months and know exactly why I didn't write it...and that's another point why it's so beloved-ah! my namesake-becuase i don't care if someone reads it sometime in the future and has all kinds of wrong ideas about me. They can say whatever, that I was a racist motherfucker, a homophobe, a woman hater, a xenophobe, a twisted sick neurotic bastard, but they won't get it. Because my journal doesn't have any limits, and whoever reads it won't have the full picture, they will just have what I chose to write...they will just get to know a part of me, and that it's fine with me...but they won't have the pictures that I have when I reminisce about those words, and oh those wonderful gaps...so it will be useless to anybody, but me.

Since

Since
And since I haven't believed in god in a while, I have acquired a very existentialist way of seeing things. But it's absurd that I found myself telling myself to sleep that I should feel better; that my body needs to fight to not get sick.

My indie shit sneaks up on me...

"Forget photos and letters
All the people that matter
They don't move me no more
You don't move me no more
And you're no longer mine

It's suprising how rapidly
We were changing from you and me
No matter how you count, oh no
It will go to show

When history is done
And everything is over
Just to keep us warm
It's slowly getting colder
There's nothing to explain
It's hard to stay the same
History is done
And everything is gone"

Escritos del pasado

15/oct/2006

No

subordina a toda prerrogativa.

dependiente trae mil problemas adicionales.

explicación, mejor no decir nada.

Weekend

Eventful weekend... And I did little school work, but I had a lot of
fun. I realized that small surprises are still a lot of fun. It made
me remember that a bit of the so called good times, can make you have
faith again in other people. Not everything is as it seems, and a
little bit of pain can bring the joy of new skin growth over those old
scars. You are not as bad as others think and you are not that ugly
person that you sometimes thought you were... Cogito ergo sum, cuando
deje de pensar seré como el resto...
And I admire those that challenge me to keep reading and get
better...like my family and some friends...

Nonetheless you still rock them, like war scars.

y en el Nuevo Día??? que raro...

Monday, April 20, 2009

Lol

Nothing like wippity wipes!

No más...

Ultimamente, todo se siente tan etéreo...
Tan no abstracto... Irreal, surreal e hiperreal...

Faithless in youtube!

Fidati di me...Laura Pausini

fidati di me
ho sbagliato anch'io
fidati di me

almeno fidati di me

fidati di me
ho sbagliato anch'io

fidati di me
non buttare via
l'ultima occasione che aspettavi dentro te

adesso fidati di me

fidati di me
ho sofferto anch'io
fidati di me

almeno fidati di me

laura: fidati di me
cori: ho sbagliato anch'io

laura: fidati di me

almeno fidati di me

Efecto Dominó de Chetes

Estar en control solo es una idea
que te hace sentir feliz
mi preocupacion solo me envenena

Coming of age

Though I just turned 24, I feel like I have much I learn and absorb
not very much different than a child or a teenager. Although it is not
disputed that I am older and wiser than a child or a teenager (despite
what some people might say), I know with certainty that there are
moments when learning things by ways of transgressing unknown rules is
no less embarassing. This is one of the many reasons why I think I'm
in the process of 'coming of age'; I'm still transgressing my way into
the adult world and there is a long way to go here in the US.

I Am where I am

that was my gift to Dani...
A Tangram

Hombre Bicentenario

Run round and round a Room --
In search of Something -- as it seemed --
Then Cloudier become --
And then -- obscure with Fog --
And then -- be soldered down
Without disclosing what it be
'Twere blessed to have seen --”

for the sake of people who (might) read this in english:

I just felt awesome listening to music en spanish...i dunno what brought this, but it made me happy...

I am part of the elite...

Not really, but in mind I'm sorta there...

These past few days I have been a bit hateful towards certain people (mainly dumb people)...

Though in no connection to the last post, I sometimes feel like I am member of the egocentric bourgeoisie.

Love is...

Love is a bourgeois thing...
It’s simple as it sounds...
Upper class is interested somehow in keeping their riches among themselves... So they just get interested (most of the time) with other people that want to do the same thing.

Lower class is so caught up in the circumstances that most of the time, deprive them of full liberty, and thus most of the time end up in relationships they didn’t intend to get into (translation=unplanned pregnancies and lots of them).

Thus middle class is mainly the one that indulges in such a folly called love. They have enough time to waste time away in how grand it can be, but not enough to actually ‘live it’. Among other things, it is the bourgeoisie that always ends up being too caught up in this ‘love’ sentiment. Part of another power ideology.

Oh and, don’t beat me up for being too simplistic, I know I am... but nonetheless, I’m right...

so...

Friday...
I don't get how some people get so excited about Fridays...
Maybe it's because my schedule is not as rigid in terms of Monday-Friday like many people...

anyway, I might go down to DC tonight... maybe just stay home holed up watching tv (which is great too) as I won't have company today :(

Maybe I'll read because i finished Foundation and Empire and I just took out of the library Second Foundation, so even though I have to read quite a lot for school, I'm in for some fun treats with my books...

Bon appetit...

A long time ago...

I used to talk about myself in third person... like December 2005!

The Link

such a long time ago...

anyway, perusing through cyberspace I read a little something that I found disturbing (in a 'your wrong' kinda way, not the 'you disgust me' kinda way)... People should not attack other people just because they have inferiority complexes (yes, I took a bit of psychology (my major) so I know a bit like I said) and in general terms, I hate that people attack 'institutions' and people in those institutions without even knowing the full story... and that's why those people are at the bottom of the evolutionary continuum, even though they may boast they know a lot about it.

new pleasures...

I've discovered a new way to indulge myself, and it involves sliding down a mountain on a board.
I tell you the pleasure of doing it, was indescribable...

Nobama...

This is going to be short and sweet...
well, not that sweet...

Obama chose Rick Warren to pray at his inauguration, in his spirit of inclusiveness and what not...

But, in his message of inclusiveness and foreign policy he mentioned he would 'initiate' talks with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, but that doesn't mean that he would invite him to say his inauguration prayers, or will he?

Rick warren is a bigot, that has spread hateful messages against jews and the LGBT community. Condemning the jews to hell and comparing homosexuality with bestiality and pedophilia. Is his message that far away from Taliban doctrine?

If he is inviting a bigot to pray for the 'blessing' of his entrance into office, I am having doubts about his future decisions...

This is not good...and I am tired of being treated as a second class citizen!

I woke up today...

To the feeling of a tender hand on my face...
The embrace...
The kisses on the forehead...
The tenderness of it all is enough to melt my cold heart over and over
again...

creeped up on me...

Well, these are my songs at the moment...

Kiss Kiss Kiss by Yoko Ono (Remixed with Peaches)

The End by De/Vision (which has some really uplifting lyrics like...)
  • I'm unimpressed
    By everything you do
    You make me sick
I never wanna be like you
    Your hollow words
    Opinions all cut-and-dried
    I know it hurts
    But sometimes reality bites

    You are the end
    You are the end
    I'm the beginning

and Electropop by Jupiter Rising

I wake up everyday

Not thinking twice about what I just did...
Is this my home? Is this real? Is he really the end?

it's great

I sleep
I hug
I sing
I dance
I drink
I watch
I touch...(in very subtle way)
I smile
I enjoy every minute
I work
I get cold
I talk
I eat
I lie there...

and now I reflect

i'm just a pawn

The universe is playing with my well being...

I'm listening to Pandora and this song comes up, but since I am working I am not fully listening to what it is saying. Most of the time when I'm listening to Pandora I bookmark the songs that come up and rate them and what not... again, I'm working so I'm not doing this as much as I want to cause I'm supposed to be doing something else...

Then this song comes up, and I liked it (a lot), so I decided to interrupt my work for a minute (little did I know) and bookmark the song, only to find out that the song is called: Your Ex-lover is dead

some of the lyrics...
"God that was strange to see you again
Introduced by a friend of a friend
Smiled and said 'yes I think we've met before'
In that instant it started to pour,
Captured a taxi despite all the rain
We drove in silence across Pont Champlain
And all of the time you thought I was sad
I was trying to remember your name...

....

There's one thing I want to say, so I'll be brave
You were what I wanted
I gave what I gave
I'm not sorry I met you
I'm not sorry it's over
I'm not sorry there's nothing to save

I'm not sorry there's nothing to save..."

and there you have it...
I think the universe is trying to make me feel better by echoing what I feel...and it's working.

How can I...

Separate myself from this cyber extension???
It seems like I'm so attached to this shit...
almost sickening!

Dream about me...

The knight wanted to rape the maiden, or something like that. Me and another noble tried to dissuade him by stating that it was almost nightfall and that they were near the green crystal. When that didn’t convince him much, I grabbed the crystal by it’s long chain and started hurling it like a pendulum from side to side towards him. The girl screamed and left the scene while the perpetrator got scared and transfixed at the crystal, which he also fled. But it was too late, the guardian of the crystal came out of her room and admonished him for such behavior and he ran away. I put the crystal back where it was, and went to the next room as the meeting was going to start. The door closed. I waited in the other room, everyone dressed in their best clothes. And inside the room came in Queen Elizabeth and sat next to me, I was her ‘Robin’, although she was the only one sitting and I had a nice big dress too (no boobs though). While some other noble was talking purposefully in what could be the said the purpose of the meeting, the queen whispered to me. “Shall we punish him?” To which I replied, “Of Course, my queen”. It was decided that he should be deprived of many privileges, after the meeting was over.
And then we took pictures. The cast of Twilight took the stage, and Bella whispered in my ear, her true feelings and wishes...”Not in this theater, not next year”...

It all was in the Parisian/Cape Townian nightscape....

edit: I wrote this morning, so...I'm not going back to correct the grammar and syntactic mistakes. Do what you want with it.

Careful my young padawan...

Careful my young padawan...
Careful must I be
Critizing my anthropology fathers
Is going to get my head chopped off!

Crazy...

I realized today that if someone were to make a film about me, it will
be really easy for that person to capture me as a really crazy/
eccentric person. I mean, my behavior is just plain irrational
sometimes...

Ghosts...

A friend told me yesterday that I have ghosts in my apartment...(half-jokingly)
I don't believe in that kind of thing, but I do hear and see stuff in my apartment, (which he also heard)...but I think I kinda like them... they're not annoying, so why would they be scary?

anyway...
what is with Rick Astley in the Macy's Parade? of all places, the cartoon network float?
Rickrolled...

Matteraso

I'm in bed...
and I'm writing for my papers...

And all I can think of is how stupid I really was, when I tried to hold on to some things...

I'm all better now! It's all good!

I'm a professional now...
I'm a friend now...
I'm smiling now...

Even though it's cold...

Epiphanies!!!

I've just been putting hidden quotes around all week...
which can be fun...

I am a walrus...

Wait wait wait...
I need to clarify this (last post) for my own sake:

This is not about love
'Cause I am not in love
In fact I can't stop falling out
I miss that stupid ache...

As Ms. Apple clearly puts it...

But if anyone actually knows that reference, they will get it...

again...why?

I'm falling again...

I have been down this road before, and I hope it doesn't turn ugly like many other times...

But in the meantime, let me enjoy this newfound feeling of...

But enojoying it nevertheless...

Crap!

In just one month, I'll be back to vacation on the little island I still call home.
Which apart from the good news that entails...it also means that I have to get some serious work done!!!

This has been a tough semester, not impossible, but tough...and it's going to get tougher now!!!

The only day I plan to take off is Thanksgiving...

Development

Lately I have been reading a lot about development studies in Anthropology. Check it out, cause if it wasn't for these classes, I would've never heard of this.

I don't have much to say on the topic at the moment, but I get the impression that this is a very important area in social studies, as a lot of our actions here in the US affect in many many ways, the so called developing countries.

At the same time this whole development studies thing, help us to challenge our notions of what is a developing country and what not...

the awesomeness...

That is Chetes...
It's in Spanish so...I will do the appropriate thing and switch to Spanish.

...Back to work

The greatest story ever told…

Pardon my incoherence…this was a dream

I'm in Silver Spring and me and my friends are looking for a place to eat, as they turned down all the places I know I suggest we take the bus to downtown. I think I was like 12 here. We decided to walk up to our house then, but we see the police and paramedics taking a body away. We run to the scene and find out that someone was just murdered there. But nobody seemed to care as the workers were still painting the big building. The building was so big, but at the same time it was so badly constructed that it was not evenly constructed everywhere, kind of like those old buildings you see in Santurce (old section of town in the capital), but oh well. I saw one of the workers in the ladder fall down beside me and cringe to death while I just stood there with my indifference. Then I tried to go through the uneven edges of the two buildings, but thought it wasn't worth it anymore because it was such a long time ago whenI did it (when I was a little kid) and when they reconstructed it they eliminated the door that was there. The building was being painted a pale yellow. I see a ghost at the end that is walking in the rocky path, the same rocky path me and my brother tried to cross when we were little but found out too hard and painful to do it barefoot. The ghost was walking towards me crossing the path and I I though, THAT IT CAN'T BE. Robert showed me what his clothes would look like if he actually crossed that path, ages and ages ago. Which he did, because it was him!

I jumped into the old helicopter that was on the overgrown grass and sat there for a while, my nana came and I decided to turn it on…and it did! I flew around dangerously close to some people and saw my brother and waved at him… The memory of our grandfather was still alive!

Not here…

For a while…I doubted if I was really here.

believe...

...
It's amazing how disrupted and calm you can be at the same time.
You may feel like your insides are crumbling, because the truth is so hard to swallow, and yet you smile-you smile like you mean it...except, that you actually mean it.

"Te diste cuenta?" me dice...
"Marry me..." he says while he...

...
It's amazing how disrupted and torn you can be, and appear to be calm...Because you were reminded that it is not all over...that you still have to deal with some minor details...
But for the first time in my life, I am surrendering ambiguity; and I don't want to talk about it! Not with you anymore...I am done...and I am free to feel however I want about this...

...

Why am I still awake at this unholy hour???

Redeemed!!!

Redeemed!!!
And in one hour and a half I was able to read two chapters for class,
one more chapter for an end of semester project, do the summary for
said project and install windows xp on my mac...
I freed myself from the Sunday curse!!!

Sunday indeed...

This sounds like a long overdue echo, but Sundays suck!
I didn't do anything all day.

parties and get togethers...

I've been having fun here with a few of my new friends...
and that's it!

I've been having fun... And when days like these just keep on coming, I don't have much to say.

I just say thanks to the cosmos for letting me enjoy a nice evening...
Thanks to the friends that lend their ears for my woes, my cheerfulness, my rants...even my cravings :)...

I'm thankful that at least, I'm being able to move on without looking back that often; and even when I look back, my step doesn't quiver...

I'm taking big strides here, and I hope they don't get smaller with time.

Stupid, stupid people of the US

It's true that we have come a long way and we elected our first African-American president. But it's sad that the LGBT community is still being treated as second class citizens. Worst of all is that in the states where these discriminatory laws got passed, they were supported by more than the majority of Latino/Hispanic and African-American that voted.

Seriously? How the hell can you be black or Latino and still discriminate towards others? Towards your brothers and sisters?

How the hell? I mean what the fuck? How can you discriminate against LOVE?

And then there are stupid people like this Solomon Brown from California. An African-American young man that voted for Obama and voted in favor of prop 8, and then he says:

" He had no qualms about voting for Obama, either, and adds that his choice wasn't related to race. But he worries what moral beliefs will be taught in coming years.

"I don't want a man and a man to be married," Brown said. "When I have kids, I don't want them to see that."

Still, he says he doesn't hate gay people and has several gay friends. He emphasizes that he dislikes the fact that people are gay, but not the individuals themselves.

"I can't be prejudiced against them, with me being an African-American," Brown said. "That would be hypocritical in my eyes.""

How is that OK? How is it OK to dislike the fact that people are gay? How is it OK to just say it in NATIONAL PRESS??? I mean can I be honest here and just say that I dislike the fact that people are black? or Latinos? Because, they were born that way right? They didn't choose to be black or Latino, right? How the hell is that different from gay people? I would be so criticized if I ever said: "Yes, um I like keebler crackers, but oh no, I'm sorry, black people? No, I dislike them.

How is it OK to still treat some people like that? "I dislike how you were born and I'm sorry but it disgusts me so much that my children shouldn't be exposed to such an atrocity...
"But hey let's put on some sex and violence here on tv just for the kids. right? RIGHT? How is that any different from any white bigot that 'dislikes' Jews or Blacks just because they are that way? In what century are we? I seem to be lost in some anachronistic vortex here.

Seriously?
You Solomon Brown are a prejudiced little fucker, cause you are judging them by saying you dislike the fact they are gay? You disgust me, and personally i am tired of being (as they say) TOLERANT to people who are just plain stupid.

This is just too much...I'm starting to become a bit of a misanthrope...

just wondering...

what the fuck is wrong with pink and her new song?

election day

I don’t know how to feel about this...I mean, what if Obama doesn’t win? I’ll be devastated for sure, but I will all be given up?

Not only because of Obama, but what is happening in certain states where people want to take away rights, instead of conceding more. The same goes for the governor’s seat and legislature back home. There is one particular candidate, that I think has great popularity, but it’s the worst candidate in so many ways. His is ultra conservative, wants to strip away the reserve status of areas of great ecological importance and wants to do make law in an amendment that will make it so, that only married couples are married. This affects not only affect homosexual and lesbian couples, but also people who live in consensual marriages...People overlook these things, even my family does, but when you vote for a candidate, you vote for the whole package...you’re getting him/her and all his/her goodies!

I hope this turns out for the best...

Sunday, November 02, 2008

really, why?

I should have seen it coming...

When we first started going out, and a little problem came in the way, He wouldn't want to talk about, he was always up for forgetting everything in order for everything to be calm. I on the other hand, wanted to confront everything when it happened (or at least in a reasonable time after everything subsided)... I got everything off my chest, more than a week ago...

Thank God, I’m not waiting for his debriefing call, to clear things up on his side (cause he thinks I have the wrong idea)...

so...why am I still thinking about this?
